i am looking for a young small pig and if i am a suitable parenti am 16 years old and have wanted a smaller pig since our neighbors had a full grown very big pig last year. our home is good sized and has room for another animal. we also have a large yard that has plenty of room for a cage or room to run. currently we have an older dog that still enjoys playing but is most definitly not a puppy. we also have a cat that is very good to other animals and has no trouble getting along.
i have been researching miniature, teacup and small pigs recently in hopes of finding a suitable pig for my birthday on the 22nd of april. i don't have a preference as for what kind of gender the pig is but it is prefered that the pig is smaller in size.
my family and i could keep the pig and train it properly, that is no problem at all. but we do tend to travel a bit during the summer and throughout the year. my idea was that we could have someone stay the house and take care of our pig and other pets, but please tell me if this is a good idea.
i have also heard that pigs do better in pairs but i dont beleive that my parents would allow for two pigs in the house.
another problem is that we may be getting a new puppy soon as well. we could keep them seperated if needed but the puppy would be trained to be obedient and should not be a problem to the pig.
please tell me if i have covered all bases concerning the pig's well being and if this is a good idea. i would absolutely love a pig but i wouldn't want to get a pig just to give it away later becuase of bad conditions. any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
also if anyone is selling or giving away a small, nice pig i would love to talk to you about it.
