N/A Basic Info The Nebelung cat is a long-haired cat breed, bred to resemble the Russian Blue with a long coat. The Nebelung looks like a Russian Blue, except that the Nebelung has a long coat, whereas the Russian Blue has short coat. "Blue" coloring is known as a sort of light bluish-gray in the United States. A rather delicate looking cat, the Nebelung has a long body, legs and tail. The eyes of the Nebelung are green. The Nebelung usually weighs from six to eight pounds. Health The Nebelung should be brushed once or twice a week.
Habitat United States Behavior A relatively new breed, the Nebelung is a quiet, shy cat. Although the Nebelung is a loving and affectionate cat, it may not be the best choice for a family with small children, because the Nebelung is timid and has a reserved personality. However, while the Nebelung may not be the most outgoing cats, they often enjoy sleeping on the bed and being petted if the cat is allowed to "make the first move" and simply enjoys the company of its owners. Additionally, the Nebelung can be playful and has been known to "fetch". Origin United States History The name "Nebelung" means "Creature of the mist" in German. The Nebelung is a very new breed and was started in the 1980's when a Russian Blue was crossed with a female with long hair. The resulting kittens were the first Nebelungs. The first Nebelungs that were registered were called "Seigfried" and "Brunhilde". After Siegfried and Brunhilde had their first litter of kittens, an application was made to have the breed officially recognized by The International Cat Association. In 1987, the Nebelung was accepted by the TICA as a longhaired Russian Blue. In 1990, the Nebelung was recognized as a breed by the Traditional Cat Association. Although the Nebelung is gaining popularity, it is still not very well known. Common Foods cat food, milk |
