Basic Info

A breed of average size, the body is of medium length and width, and it is hard and muscular. The males are generally a bit larger than the females, with more muscular and stronger facial characteristics. The chest is broad and the legs are proportionate with dark rings. The hind legs are slightly longer than the forelegs. The tail is long and thick, also with dark rings, and tapering slightly near the end. The ears are wide and set low against the head, tilting forward slightly. The eyes are large and wide, appearing in various shades of green, which range from bright green to chartreuse to aquamarine. The coat is short and dense, with symmetrical spots of any number of sizes and patterns across the sides of the body, the flanks and the stomach. The colors of the coat vary in shades of brown, blue, chocolate, lilac, gold and peach. The name "Mist" comes from the misty background color of the coat, because the more pronounced spots set it off.

The Australian Mist has a very loving, people-oriented personality and thrives on human companionship. Very adaptive to the presence of other animals and young children, the Mist is exceedingly tolerant when handled, but is very inclined to scratch. The Australian Mist is an ideal candidate for an "inside" cat. Though they are active, energetic and inquisitive, their self-assurance, intelligence and devotion to owners makes them best suited, for and extremely adaptive to living inside.

History

The Australian Mist originates entirely in Australia, and was fully registered in 1987 by a child of Dr. Truda Straede. This authentic breed was developed in the latter years of the 1970's by crossing Abyssinian, Domestic, and Burmese felines. The Mist is a combination of colors, spots, and temperament of the above three breeds.
