Teacup Pigs – Info and Tips to Raising a ‘Mini’ Pet Pig

Teacup pigs are cross-bred from Old English strains and a rare breed in New Zealand They are known as Teacup pigs because the are approximately 3” high and 5” long as a piglet and grow only to 15- 17 “ high at full maturity. These mini pigs are well known for their good temperament and good companionship. Teacup pigs have a lifespan of 8-14 years and these mini pigs are touted as the next perfect pet.

Tips for a Healthy Teacup Pig

1) Teacup pigs should be kept in pairs. Pigs are naturally found in a herd and are therefore very much companion animals.

2) House training is very easy with Teacup pigs but one must remember to train at a young age. If the pig is to live indoors training must also be done to prevent behaviours such as chewing and rooting.

3) Teacup pigs should have a personal area of at least about 4’ by 8’. It is also recommended that outdoor pigs also have straw to keep them warm at night.

4) Diet is extremely important with Teacup pigs. They must be kept fit and lean in order to maintain their long lifespan.

5) Teacup pigs are known for their good temperament and would most likely get along with other animals in the household. However, one must look out for dominant characteristic in any of their pets to determine
