For some, the first thing that will come to your mind when someone utters the word pig is a pot bellied animal that finds his food even in garbage dumps and snorts every now and then. How can such an animal make a fine pet? Well!

There are 73 different breeds of pigs on the planet, so it is about time you owned your own Potbellied Pig. Pet Pigs are easy to train, loyal, curious, intelligent and playful. Potbelly pigs have a life span of 10-15 years and are relatively clean animals. Pigs make unique and lovable pets.

Pigs are mostly kept as outdoor pets but your pet pig can also have his own place in the home. Potbellied pigs can be leash trained or house trained and require certain amount of stimulation otherwise their energies might turn destructive. Naturally, pigs are herd animals and a buddy for your pet pig will help easy some of the pent up energy. What makes them a good pet is the charming personality and their intelligence level. One of good attributes is that in spite of the occasional mud bath (pigs don’t sweat and hence need to take a mud bath to cool off), pigs are clean animals.

Pet Pigs can also act as house guards. They are able to sense danger and even try to protect their owners if and when required. It is not a good idea to have a dog and a pet pig as dogs see pigs as prey. It is similar to the relationship between cat and bird, it is possible but not recommended.

All in all, a pot bellied pig is a pet you will fall in love with for life.
